PERSONAL GENOMES

14-Sep-2009 - 17-Sep-2009
Cold Spring Harbor NY USA

This second meeting builds on last year’s presentations showing a significant milestone in human genetics - the first production of "personal genomes." Ultra high throughput sequencing strategies have now been used to study more individual genomes – and yet few scientists, and even fewer clinical geneticists, are familiar with the implications of this new data. This meeting will address the issues of individual genomes being part of research and routine clinical medicine within the next few years.

STEM CELL BIOLOGY

22-Sep-2009 - 26-Sep-2009
Cold Spring Harbor NY USA

The meeting will focus on the basic biology of stem cells and the dynamic interactions between stem cells and their microenvironment or niche. Topics will include the mechanisms controlling stem cell proliferation, differentiation, pluripotency and reprogramming. Emerging concepts about the regulation of multipotent cells during early embryo development, tissue regeneration and tumor progression will be emphasized.

NEUROBIOLOGY OF DROSOPHILA

29-Sep-2009 - 03-Oct-2009
Cold Spring Harbor NY USA

The goals of this conference are to provide a forum for the presentation of late breaking advances in Drosophila neurobiology, to exchange ideas and techniques, to stimulate future research and collaborations, and to recognize and encourage younger investigators and women working in this field. We strongly encourage all participants to submit an abstract(s) of your most recent work for consideration as oral or poster presentation. In the event of the meeting being oversubscribed, preference to attend will go to those submitting abstracts. The organizers will endeavor to accept for participation at least one representative of every applicant laboratory either engaged in or about to embark on Drosophila neurobiological research. We particularly encourage active participation by younger investigators and minority scientists.

CELL DEATH

06-Oct-2009 - 10-Oct-2009
Cold Spring Harbor NY USA

We are pleased to announce the eighthmeeting on Cell Death, to be held at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory from Tuesday evening October 6th till after lunch on Saturday, October 10th, 2009. The meeting will cover the field of cell death and apoptosis by specific sessions devoted to the topics listed below. The format of the meeting will include morning and evening sessions consisting of short talks, limited to approximately 15 minutes, principally on unpublished work. Because the audience will be composed of investigators with rather diverse backgrounds, the session chairs will anchor each session with a 20 minute talk to provide an overview of the specific area. The other submitted abstracts will be presented in poster sessions in the free afternoons. As usual at Cold Spring Harbor Meetings, all abstracts of both poster and platform sessions will be published in an abstract book given to all the participants.

GENOME INFORMATICS

27-Oct-2009 - 30-Oct-2009
Cold Spring Harbor NY USA

The focus for this conference is large-scale genome informatics. Biology is an experimental science that is experiencing an explosion of new data. This requires biologists to increase the scale and sophistication in the information technology used for their research. The conference scope encompasses the management and the analysis of these data, such as whole genome comparisons within and among species and strains, the analysis of results from high throughput experiments to uncover cellular pathways and molecular interactions, and the design of effective algorithms to identify regulatory sequence motifs.
