Narishige's EG-402 replaces the EG-401. It includes a built-in microscope to observe the pipette at contact with the grinding plane. The EG-402 is typically used for beveling glass microcapillary microinjection needles, yielding both a sharper needle and a larger opening. It can also be used for almost any fine polishing operation.

This model provides stable performance at both lower speeds for more precision and higher speeds for faster grinding. The unit includes a coarse and fine movement coaxial manipulator, for vertical operation of the micropipette, which enables precise grinding. A protractor is mounted on the pipette holder fixing section, making it easy to set the required grinding angle, and an adaptor is attached for vertical grinding. Water filling and drainage mechanisms are installed to prevent clogging or the accumulation of shavings, making the apparatus as a whole much easier to use.
