In Japanese, TAKANOME is a metaphor equating this system with a hawk setting its sight on its prey and swooping down precisely, which is exactly what the MTK-1 does. Narishige's MDO-84 is a compact, add-on, fine one-axis micromanipulator.
The MDO-84 is the pencil type micromanipulator (MO-10), a hybrid of oil-hydraulic and stepping motor that offers precise control. Used in combination with a stereotaxic manipulator, the add-on tool allows remote-control with the distance traveled shown on the digital display, as well as variable speed and precision settings- which are impossible to be performed by a manual model. Two setting modes are available: entering speed directly or entering distance and time, in the range of 0.1um/s to 500um/s. The drive unit is small and lightweight so that it can be mounted easily on different manual manipulators.

This single-axis oil hydraulic micromanipulator is typically use as an add-on manipulator. Narishige's MO-95 is a remote-controlled oil-hydraulic micromanipulator for chronic experiments on the skulls of middle size animals, mainly monkeys. Employment of the oil hydraulic system enables microelectrodes to be inserted by remote control, without vibration. The chamber method is used, so that slight movements by the subject animal will not dislodge the microelectrode, while attachment/ detachment can be done freely. The acrylic XY stage makes it easy to position the microelectrodes with great accuracy while visually confirming their location. Microelectrodes ranging from 0.3 to 2mm can be used, by adjusting the positions of the packing and the microelectrodes themselves. Since this model uses the microelectrode expose method, any kind of microelectrode can be used. When the chain bar is filled with Ringer's solution, brain activity stops and long time recording becomes possible.

Its remotely controlled oil hydraulic system permits vibration-free insertion of a microelectrode. With the detachable/attachable drive unit fixed on the skull mount chamber, even if the animal head moves, the microelectrode can be held in position. A transparent acrylic X-Y stage permits visual observation of the microelectrode insertion. By adjusting the positions of the gasket and the electrode holder, various types of microelectrodes can be used with the MO-96. The skull mount chamber can be filled with Ringer's solution to bring the functioning of the brain to a complete halt, which permits recording for prolonged periods of time.

Motor-drive Oil Hydraulic Fine Open-Type Micromanipulator System
MDO-974 is the motor-driven oil-hydraulic micromanipulator suitable for in-vivo experiments on middle-sized animals, mainly NHP primates. Based on the manual oil-hydraulic mechanism of MO-97, the hybrid model installed with stepping motor enables speed control as well as greater driving precision, which are impossible to be performed by manual model. As a merit of the hydraulic part that requires no electricity, the hydraulic-tubing line keeps some distance from the motor to the animal's head, so that the sound or noise from the motor is suppressed during the experiment. Operational setting for drive is easy to do, which is completed by entering speed directly, or entering distance and time. The range of drive speed is set as 0.1um/s to 500um/s. The speed can be changed on the way to the target, so you can make the electrode closer to the target with a faster speed, and then change it to slower speed as final small-step approach. The closed chamber is equipped with acrylic XY stage which control knobs drive 18mm on each axis.

It has a wide driving range while keeping drift to a minimum. Since this can limit their driving range to as little as 2mm, customers who want a wide driving range are recommended to choose this product, which uses a 1:1 cartridge. The drum type control unit has a large handle for precise operation and high linear repeatability.
