Narishige's SM-25C thin micromanipulator which can place several microelectrodes close together. This micromanipulator is for multi-channel recording with stereotaxic instruments, and is designed to be as thin as possible without compromising its stability. A fixing holder is employed to fix the microelectrodes, in the same way as thin plates hold the microelectrodes.
Rotation mechanisms are equipped for all three planes, and the horizontal plane can be rotated with the operating handle. This makes it possible to set the microelectrode angles and easily position the microelectrodes close together. There are three types (A, B and C) in this series, differentiated by the arrangement of their Z-axismovement unit. The C-type features an oil hydraulic, remote controlled movement for stable, accurate operation.

The SR-10AR is a head holding device designed for chronic experiments on rats and can be installed on Narishige's SR series stereotaxic instruments.
Fixation by the chamber frame has permitted repeated fixations in the same position in an unanesthetized state, thereby enabling to perform not only acute experiments but also chronic experiments without causing damage to the animal. Without the need for anesthetization, the SR-10AR can be used for visual and/or auditory experiments.
 By bonding the chamber frame onto the head of a rat, repeated fixations in the same position in an unanesthetized state have become possible. Once the chamber frame is fixed on the head, without the need for anesthetization, the rat can be stereotaxically fixed without using the mouth/nose clamp or ear bars, enabling the SR-10AR to be used for visual and/or auditory experiments.

Narishige's A-1 Muscle Fixing Apparatus facilitates insertion of a microelectrode into muscle or nerve fibers by gripping both ends of the muscle or nerve fiber and holding it under tension by stretching both ends mildly.
Normally, insertion of a microelectrode into muscle or nerve fiber is very difficult. Narishige's A-1 apparatus makes it easy by gripping both ends of the muscle or nerve fiber, stretching them and then holding the specimen under tension. Using the tweezers mounted on the ball joint, both ends of fibers of any length can be held, and moved in the Y-or Z-axis. Also attached is a stand, which allows vertical adjustment and on which the specimen is placed.

A display showing the time-length and volume of the injection allows the user to monitor progress in real-time. The flow-rate is automatically calculated and displayed from the entered value. The digital display shows the injection status at a glance. All operation keys can be operated intuitively by icons based on easy-read size and layout. A connection bar is included for attachment to a stereotaxic micromanipulator. Depending on the orientation and position of the injector, there are two mounting methods: by a screw-in or by a newly added mounting bracket. By adopting a large retainer for plunger button, it enables easier fixation even if the plunger is thin. The syringe can be held with a flip of the dedicated retainer.

The MAG-3 can be placed under a stereomicroscope, and is most suitable for in vivo observation/imaging experiments. It is equipped with angle adjusters for obtaining deeper images. It is slightly bigger than the MAG-2 but can be inclined at a steeper angle which is useful for making an approach to the temporal region of the head.

Oil Hydraulic-Motorized Hybrid drive offers precise control.
MDO-974 is the motor-driven oil-hydraulic micromanipulator suitable for in-vivo experiments on middle-sized animals, mainly NHP primates. Based on the manual oil-hydraulic mechanism of MO-97, the hybrid model installed with stepping motor enables speed control as well as greater driving precision, which are impossible to be performed by manual model. As a merit of the hydraulic part that requires no electricity, the hydraulic-tubing line keeps some distance from the motor to the animal's head, so that the sound or noise from the motor is suppressed during the experiment. Operational setting for drive is easy to do, which is completed by entering speed directly, or entering distance and time. The range of drive speed is set as 0.1um/s to 500um/s. The speed can be changed on the way to the target, so you can make the electrode closer to the target with a faster speed, and then change it to slower speed as final small-step approach. The closed chamber is equipped with acrylic XY stage which control knobs drive 18mm on each axis.
* Distance between the control unit and motor unit can be extended from original 2.9m(9.5ft) in total to 7m(28.2ft) by MD-DCE-7 (sold separately).

Coarse movement units with a long working range are attached to both the X-axis and the Z-axis; the latter also has fine movement units attached. Narishige's SM-25A Outfitted Thin micromanipulator can place several microelectrodes close together. A fixing holder is employed to fix the microelectrodes, in the same way that thin plates hold the microelectrodes.

Narishige's SR-8N head holder is designed for chronic and repeated experiments. This is an upgraded version of the compact, stable stereotaxic instrument SR-6N developed for small animals, and can be used for chronic experiments.
Use of the guide pipe, which passes between the skull and the scalp, enables repeated fixations in the same position without using anesthesia. This allows both acute and chronic experiments to be performed without pain or damage to the animals.
Since no anaesthesia is required, both visual and aural experiments can also be undertaken. For the AP frame bar, to which manipulators are fixed, a long 18.7mm square bar is provided on either the right or the left side, enabling attachment of the SM-15 and many other kinds of accessories.

Narishige's SRP-AM2 MRI measurement-compatible head holder is now more precise and stronger than the previous version and can be attached to SR series fixing devices, ensuring extremely stable fixation of the head. When the instrument is detached for MRI measurement, 100% of the instrument becomes plastic to make the procedure easier. Markers can be inserted into the mechanism so that operators can perform MRI measurements simply by aligning measurement points to the object. Once MRI measurements are completed, the instrument can easily revert to its function as an affixing instrument, while keeping the animals positioned. Two sizes are available: SRP-AM2 for mice, and SRP-AR2 for rats.

Narishige's STS-A compact spinal cord clamps are used in conjunction with SR series stereotaxic instruments. To ensure that the fragile spinal cord of a mouse or newborn rat is clamped securely and correctly, this model is designed so that tactile information from the clamp is communicated to the operator's hand.
The left side 2 spinal clamps have rounded edges to fit with the spinal cord, while the right side clamp has saw-tooth edges, which permits flexible use depending on the use and location. Each moving part employs a manipulator-derived dovetail mechanism that ensures smooth movement without play or looseness. The simple one-touch locking system also helps to ensure secure fixation without looseness.
The STS-A is installable on the SR-5M, SR-6M, SR-5N, or SR-6N.
