The MM3A can be maneuvered very easily in all axes using the joystick control. This ergonomic intuitive user interface combined with a wide range of movement speeds makes the Kleindiek Nanotechnik MM3A ideal for microinjection and micro-dissection.
The MM3A is also ideal for patch clamp experiments in the neurobiology lab. It is literally the best micromanipulator for electrophysiology because it is easy to maneuver quickly into place, offers nanometer-level precision when making the fine adjustments to contact the neuron's cell membrane, and yields a stable signal throughout the experiment because it has virtually no drift (unlike fine hydraulic micromanipulators that drift in response to subtle temperature changes).

Controlling the MM3A: Below is a diagram of how the controls of the MM3A work. The NanoController and the Joypad (top two devices shown in the diagram) are included with the MM3A. Under the standard factory settings, the buttons on the joypad are used to move in coarse mode. The two joysticks can control in either fine or coarse mode depending on your speed selection. Additionally, you can set a home / park position that the micromanipulator can move quickly to and from when performing multiple injections.
For easier high-precision control (such as positioning a patch clamp pipette), we recommend the Cube, a manual control device with three high-resolution vernier dials (bottom device shown on the diagram). It gives you highly responsive, intuitive, linear movement control. It connects directly to the NanoControl control electronics in addition to your choice of joystick.
The course movement range is several centimeters and, once near your target, the standard fine working range of the MM3A is 20 µm. If you want a larger fine mode working range, add the Booster option. This module for the NanoControl control electronics doubles the fine mode working range.

The Lift-Out Shuttle is a super-fast, dedicated lift-out solution for preparing samples for ex-situ electron microscopy. It features a microgripper, a four-axis substage, and a small CCD camera at surface level that allows for fast approach.
The system is comprised of a four-axis substage mounted on an ultra-compact platform. A microgripper is mounted above the substage to facilitate the lift-out. The stage is manipulated to position the pre-cut sample under the microgripper. After that, the microgripper clamps onto the sample and holds it gently, but firmly enough that the sample can be freed from the bulk material by simply dropping the stage down and out of the way. Once isolated, the sample is brought in contact with SEM-compatible glue on a TEM grid, and cured with an ion beam.

Narishige's CK-1 is a curved glass bottom chamber dish for an immersion lens. For sophisticated observation, the use of a glass bottom dish is essential in connection with the polarization ratio. While disposable glass bottom dishes are already available, we have developed a chamber-type glass bottom dish that enables more sophisticated observation.
The gently-curved chamber minimizes bulges in fluid level and controls polarization. It also stabilizes the fluid surface and facilitates the use of an immersion lens. A commercially available cover glass can be inserted at the bottom that is easy to clean and sterilize, and permits reuse instead of discarding it after use.

Once a marmoset is fixed in position with stereotaxic instruments (SR-5C-HT), it is applicable for a chronic experiment by gluing pipes for the head fixation (SH-100B) which can be operated by using a holder for the head fixation pipe (SH-100C).

Narishige's SM-15M adds Y-axis movement to the SM-15. The standard SM-15 has X- and Z-axis movement units, but no Y-axis movement (i.e. the same direction as the AP frame bar). This attachment is intended to hold and move an additional tool with a shaft with 8mm O.D. With this attachment, a micromanipulator from the SMM series can hold two holders at a time. The attachment is affixed with screws in the screw holes on the side of X-axis unit of the SMM series; then the additional tool can be slid its position one end to the other. When a tool from the SMM series is tilted or used with IMS-20, this attachment helps to position the tip of the holder and keeps it from situating beyond the median line.

Cannula Holder for SMM series
This holder is intended to hold a cannula within 3.4mm and 3.5mm O.D. on SMM series. The upper tip of the cannula is visible when affixed - thus it is easy to confirm proper insertion of the cannula. The holding section can be detached from the shaft and changed in orientation (Left-right). Comparatively to SHC-1, the products differ in the diameter of the shaft and the way the cannula is held. (SMM-HC has the shaft with 8mm O.D., and the cannula won't be affixed from the top without covering the upper side of cannula - thus a T-shaped cannula can be affixed as well).

Narishige's SM-11 is the most popular (and versatile) micromanipulator for stereotaxic instruments because it can be attached to any of our AP frame bars and provides multi-axis movement. A coarse movement unit with a long working range is attached to the Z-axis, in addition to the fine movement adjustments included for each individual axis. These fine movement units have scales with minimum increments of 10µm (i.e. the total of a single rotation, 500µm, divided into 50 gradations), so that precise adjustments of 10µm are possible. In addition, the Z-axis fine movement unit has a sliding mechanism that enables approximate positioning of the X-axis. A rotation mechanism is provided for each of the X-Y, X-Z and Y-Z planes that allows approach from any required angle. Easy-to-use scales are provided wherever necessary, permitting for operations following a brain chart. Overall, this micromanipulator is simple to use and meets a wide variety of applications.

The SMM-100C is a new coarse manipulator for stereotaxic instruments focusing on driving outside the animal's brain. The driving by Z-axis control knob: approximately 4mm per rotation makes faster adjustments for leveling bregma and lambda, and faster retracting/returning from the dura mater, which will improve efficiency of the experiment. For operations inside the brain, One-axis Motorized Stereotaxic Micromanipulator MDS-1 and hydraulic manipulator can be added optionally. The X-axis is equipped with a coarse control knob, which is the same as the Z-axis. The Y-axis (anterior/ posterior direction) is equipped with a fine control knob. The upper body of SMM-100C is switchable in either AP or ML direction when using it with tilting angle.
* The minimum graduation of the X and Z-axis is 100µm. This manipulator is recommended to be used in combination with a fine micromanipulator (MDS-1, etc).

Set-up example with SMM-A
SMM-A is recommended for experiments: tilting in the ML direction.
When the manipulator SMM-100C/200C is tilted in the ML direction, the end of the holder (electrode tip) may be far off from animal's head. The attachment SMM-A is designed to attach a holder on the side of manipulator, so it enables the holder position without operating the X-axis. To this end, the holder (electrode tip) can be set to the animal's head while maintaining driving distance of the X-axis.
*The set-up example above: motorized MDS-1 and IMS-30 on SMM-100C installed with SMM-A.

Simultaneous Dual Angles: AP and ML directions
The SMM-200 Stereotaxic Micromanipulator is made for use in animal experiments with traditional methods of acute/chronic experiments or electro-physiological recording, as well as for newly developed methods of multi-photostimulations and silicon probes. The SMM-200 is equipped with a Y-axis control knob which makes the fine adjustment in the AP direction possible. The upper body of SMM-200 can be tilted with dual angles: AP and ML directions simultaneously.
