FAQ's
Q: What are the dimensions of the mounting bar on the M-3333? Is there a magnetic stand that can hold it effectively?
A: The mounting bar on the M-3333 is 12mm in diameter and about 25mm long. We offer magnetic stands that can accommodate a 12mm mounting bar, including the GJ-8.
However, it is generally inconvenient to directly mount the M-3333 directly to the GJ-8's upper cross-clamp, and restrict how you position the manipulator since it would be sitting directly over the magnetic base instead of out and away from it.
To remedy this issue we recommend the X-4 rotating X-block in conjunction with either the GJ-1 or preferably the GJ-8, which provides additional weight and stability.

Three-Axis Coarse/Fine Compact Micromanipulator
MM-3:
$1,470.27
†
- In Stock
Narishige's MM-3 is amongst the most popular three axis coarse/fine compact micromanipulator. Its smooth drive and stable controls have made the MM-3 a classic and popular micromanipulator for decades. Single-axis fine movement in the same direction as the microelectrode or needle provides a high level of control when approaching a specimen. The three-axes of coarse movement operate via strudy rack & pinion mechanisms, enabling the microelectrode or needle to be placed near the specimen quickly.
Handles on both sides of the X- and Z-axis make this equipment suitable for both left- and right-handed operators, and a tension adjustment is also available to prevent the unit from dropping under its own weight. If used properly, this model's smoothness and stability will remain unchanged even over several decades of use.
*The MM-3 mounts via an extra-heavy-duty 12mm mounting rod (not included). For mounting next to the microscope or target, use the GJ-8 heavy-duty magnetic stand or equivalent equipment. Contact us for other options if mounting directly to a microscope stage is required for maximum stability.
*It is possible to substitute a hydraulic micromanipulator, such as the MO-10, for the standard H-13 micropipette holder when remote control of X-axis is required.

Narishige's MN-151 is a lightweight, 3-axis mechanical micromanipulator which has coarse movements in the X, Y, and Z directions. In addition to the 3 coarse axes of movement, the MN-151 also incorporates fine, joystick-controlled movements in the X-Y plane. A knob with 5 um gradations provides fine mechanical movement in the Z axis. The MN-151 is very versatile, and can be mounted in a variety of orientations on both the left and right sides of a microscope stage. It can be used to manipulate the primary needle holder in applications such as Drosophila, C. elegans, Xenopus, and Zebrafish microinjection. It also can be used in other applications such as mammalian oocyte microinjection, where it can be used as a versatile holding-pipette manipulator and for Yeast Tetrad microdissection. *Please note that the P-1A Height Adjustment Plate (not included) is required to attach the MN-151 to Narishige's bracket systems. A needle holder, such as our MINJ-4, Narishige's HI-7, H-7 or HI-9, also needs to be purchased separately.

FAQ's
Q: What are the main differences between the MN-151 and MN-153 micro manipulators?
A: MN-153 and MN-151 both have 3-axis course movement. MN-153 has an additional fine movement in the X-axis (the direction toward the sample) and no fine movement in Y or Z. MN-151 has an additional fine movement in the Z-axis (lowering down to the same plane as the sample) plus it has the joystick for fine, coordinated movement in X and Y. If you move the joystick left and right, the needle moves towards and away from the sample, respectively. If you move the joystick toward you or away from your, the needle moves toward you and away from you in the Y axis, respectively. The MN-151 makes it easier to line up the needle before injection. However, the biggest advantage is that the needle moves at a speed proportional to the speed you move the joystick, so it is easier to make the needle pierce the eggs.
Q: What are the types of mounting adapter needed to attach the MN-151 to the scope? Does the mounting adaptor attach below or behind the stage?
A: The NZ-19-2 mounts on the illumination pillar, not onto the stage. This makes it really easy to change samples, because on your scope, you can set it so that you can tilt the pillar toward the back, which will cause the micromanipulator to lift up and out of the way. The NZ-19-2 goes out to the side, NR2 goes up, and the MN-151 includes a P-1A bracket to come back toward you with a bar to mount the micromanipulator.

Narishige's MN-153 is a three axis coarse/fine direct drive micromanipulator with the capability of fine movement on the X-axis, enabling accurate linear approach to the cell with no danger of causing it any serious damage. Employment of the bar mount system provides complete installation flexibility and greatly broadens the range of possible applications.
*For attachment to the microscope, P-1A height adjustment plate (not included) and a suitable adaptor is required (standard accessories). *The ball joint that attaches the micromanipulator can be replaced by MMO-220A single-axis oil hydraulic micromanipulator (sold separately). *A needle holder, such as our MINJ-4, Narishige's HI-7, H-7 or HI-9, also needs to be purchased separately.

Three-Axis Coarse/Fine Manual Micromanipulator
NMN-21:
$4,108.11
†
- Ships in 1-5 days
Narishige's NMN-21 is a manually operated micromanipulator which minimizes jitter for simplicity and high performance.
Drift and electromagnetic disturbance are critical problems in patch clamping work. This mechanical micromanipulator was developed specifically for patch clamping: it does not employ a liquid hydraulic system (which is prone to drift due to temperature changes), has no springs (a common cause of mechanical drift), nor a motor (which can be a source of electrical noise). Its body is designed to absorb vibrations, so that even at high magnifications, problems of jittering are virtually non-existant. The NMN-21 is based on a drum type design and utilizes a pair of independent sliders that serve to isolate vibrations. In addition, vibrations are often caused by the operator handling the control knob, which is usually connected to a slider. To overcome this problem, the control knob of the NMN-21 is fixed independently and separate from the slider. High mass and a low center of gravity provide exceptionally steady and stable performance. The overall design is compact, so installation requires a minimum of space. With coarse and fine manipulators integrated into the compact body, this model handles a full range of required motions, from moving a microelectrode into the microscope field of view to making delicate contact with cells.
* Can be mounted directly on an optical bench-type isolation table * Can be firmly fixed to any part of a steel isolation table with the NMN-C magnetic stand (sold separately) * Can be mounted directly to microscopes via suitable adapters (sold separately) * AP-14/AP-13-3 patch clamp headstage holders can be attached via the integrated UST-2 solid universal joint
Setting Example The first photo shows a mounting adapter setting example. The second photo shows the setting example with the ITS2-N/ ITS2-O/ ITS2-Z/ ITS2-L (Microscope Isolation Systems) plus NR-12 (Rotating Micromanipulator Clamp) plus NMN-21.

Narishige's NMN-25 packs similar features to those of the NMN-21 into a thinner drive unit to facilitate multi-channel recording. The placement of all three axes' control knobs in one plane instead of three, and the adoption of a simpler holder fixing block, enables several manipulators to be installed and operated close together without interfering with each other. Installation on an isolation table makes use of multiple manipulators straightforward. Like the NMN-21, which was developed specially for patch clamping, this mechanical manipulator integrates coarse and fine movements, and employs a body design which absorbs vibrations. As a result, operation is precise, stable, and free from concerns about drift and electromagnetic disturbance.
*For attachment directly to a microscope, a suitable adaptor is required (sold separately). *The micromanipulator can be mounted directly on the isolation table, or for quickly changing samples or electrodes, use the NMN-25A dedicated slider base for NMN-25. *AP-13-3/AP-14 patch clamp headstage holders can be attached to this unit (sold separately).

Top Features:
Easy setup: no cumbersome brackets to fiddle around with; just place the sturdy magnetic micromanipulator onto your microscope stage and start injecting! The NanoControl box and Joypad/Joystick/Cube sit next to the microscope for easy access and ergonomic ease.
Virtually impervious to vibration
Very low drift (1 nm/min) (yes, that is 1 nanometer!)
Sub-nanometer resolution (0.25nm)
Extensive working range (100cm3)
Integrated coarse and fine movement in one unit
High operating velocity (up to 10mm/sec!)
The Kleindiek Nanotechnik MM3A Micromanipulator is a convenient, amazingly precise, and effective solution for patch clamp experiments, in-vitro fertilization (IVF / ICSI), transgenic construction, embryo manipulation, chromosomal dissection, and any types of work that require ultra-precise movement control. It features the ability to move very quickly to the desired location, while maintaining a precision of less than a nanometer! This is over 20 times more precise than any of the Narishige micromanipulators that we offer, and over 40 times more precise than Eppendorf TransferMan® NK 2, InjectMan® NI 2 and PatchMan® systems. If you want incredible precision and stability without sacrificing your working range and operating velocity, this is the micro-manipulator for you!
The MM3A can be maneuvered very easily in all axes using the joystick control. This ergonomic intuitive user interface combined with a wide range of movement speeds makes the Kleindiek Nanotechnik MM3A ideal for microinjection and micro-dissection.
The MM3A is also ideal for patch clamp experiments in the neurobiology lab. It is literally the best micromanipulator for electrophysiology because it is easy to maneuver quickly into place, offers nanometer-level precision when making the fine adjustments to contact the neuron's cell membrane, and yields a stable signal throughout the experiment because it has virtually no drift (unlike fine hydraulic micromanipulators that drift in response to subtle temperature changes).
Below is a diagram of how the controls of the MM3A work. The NanoController and the Joypad (top two devices shown in the diagram) are included with the MM3A. Under the standard factory settings, the buttons on the joypad are used to move in coarse mode. The two joysticks can control in either fine or coarse mode depending on your speed selection. Additionally, you can set a home / park position that the micromanipulator can move quickly to and from when performing multiple injections.
For easier high-precision control (such as positioning a patch clamp pipette), we recommend the Cube, a manual control device with three high-resolution vernier dials (bottom device shown on the diagram). It gives you highly responsive, intuitive, linear movement control. It connects directly to the NanoControl control electronics in addition to your choice of joystick.
The course movement range is several centimeters and, once near your target, the standard fine working range of the MM3A is 20 µm. If you want a larger fine mode working range, add the Booster option. This module for the NanoControl control electronics doubles the fine mode working range.

FAQ's
Q: What is the main advantage of the MMO-4 hydraulic micromanipulator over the MN-151 mechanical micro manipulator?
A: With a mechanical micromanipulator like the MN-151, the user touches the actual micromanipulator to move the joystick. This can introduce some vibration and some torque during movement. With a hydraulic micromanipulator like the MMO-4, the joystick is separated from the micromanipulator by the hydraulic tubes, so the user doesn't touch it, and so the movement is smooth and well isolated.

$4,702.70
†
- Ships in 1-5 days
The SMM-100C is a new coarse manipulator for stereotaxic instruments focusing on driving outside the animal's brain. The driving by Z-axis control knob: approximately 4mm per rotation makes faster adjustments for leveling bregma and lambda, and faster retracting/returning from the dura mater, which will improve efficiency of the experiment. For operations inside the brain, One-axis Motorized Stereotaxic Micromanipulator MDS-1 and hydraulic manipulator can be added optionally. The X-axis is equipped with a coarse control knob, which is the same as the Z-axis. The Y-axis (anterior/ posterior direction) is equipped with a fine control knob. The upper body of SMM-100C is switchable in either AP or ML direction when using it with tilting angle.
* The minimum graduation of the X and Z-axis is 100µm. This manipulator is recommended to be used in combination with a fine micromanipulator (MDS-1, etc).

Three-Axis Coarse Mechanical Micromanipulator with Fine Water Hydraulic Z-Axis Control. Ideal for experiments under low magnification
MWS-31:
$5,135.14
†
- Ships in 1-5 days
Narishige's MWS-31 is a one-axis water hydraulic micromanipulator combined with a three-dimensional manual coarse manipulator for patch clamping applications under low magnifications, such as when using a stereo microscope. Even at low magnifications, vibration is a critical problem, so a large and rigid manual manipulator is used to prevent it. The rotation mechanism makes exchanging pipettes easier, and the water hydraulic 1:5 cartridge system enables more stable and precise operation. An angle adjustment mechanism is equipped on the fine movement section so that an angle can be added for the fine movement section only, while coarse section retains its vertical position. This allows the manipulator angle to be changed between horizontal and vertical while the manipulator itself remains firmly fixed in position.

Narishige's MWS-32 combines a magnetic stand with the MWS-31, so that it can be used independently. Direct attachment to the magnetic stand provides enhanced stability required for applications with stereo microscopes. Like MWS-31, MWS-32 also has a water hydraulic 1:5 cartridge system, angle adjustment mechanism for firm fixing, and a rigid manual coarse manipulator. A unique feature of MWS-32 is that the manipulator is fixed directly to a rigid magnetic stand, thereby making the vertical adjustments more stable. This integration of the magnetic stand allows independent use in a variety of applications by freeing the manipulator from a stereomicroscope.
